- Asphyxiating thoracic dystrophy associated with IFT74 pathogenic variant: a case report. [Case Reports]BMC Pediatr. 2026 Aug 04; 26(1).BPed
- CONCLUSIONS: This case highlights a lethal neonatal phenotype of IFT74-related SRTD20, reinforcing the critical role of IFT74 in ciliary assembly and axonal guidance. Early WES is essential for diagnosing genetically heterogeneous skeletal dysplasias, providing accurate prognostic counseling, and guiding end-of-life discussions in cases of severe thoracic insufficiency.

- Panniculitis masquerading as generalised lymphadenopathy in a neonate: a diagnostic dilemma - a case report and a mini review. [Case Reports]BMC Pediatr. 2026 Aug 05; 26(1).BPed
- CONCLUSIONS: Panniculitis masquerading as generalized lymphadenopathy is an unusual finding in neonates. Early biopsy with histopathological evaluation is essential to avoid misdiagnosis, particularly in the presence of overlapping clinical factors such as CMV infections, sepsis or perinatal stress.

- Effect of postpartum probiotic supplementation on breastmilk composition and infant health: a pilot randomized controlled trial. [Randomized Controlled Trial]BMC Pediatr. 2026 Aug 04; 26(1).BPed
- CONCLUSIONS: This pilot study provides preliminary evidence that postpartum probiotic supplementation may be associated with beneficial changes in breast milk composition and antioxidant status.

- Wearable echocardiography enables real-time perioperative monitoring in a pediatric liver transplant recipient with hepatopulmonary syndrome and pulmonary arteriovenous malformations: a case report. [Case Reports]BMC Pediatr. 2026 Aug 04; 26(1).BPed
- CONCLUSIONS: This is the first detailed report demonstrating the utility of wearable echocardiography for continuous, real-time cardiac monitoring in a pediatric liver transplant recipient with severe HPS and PAVMs. This technology may facilitate individualized fluid management and enable early warning of catastrophic complications in pediatric liver transplantation when standard echocardiographic modalities are contraindicated or insufficient.

- Application of bronchoscopy in children with primary ciliary dyskinesia. [Journal Article]
- CONCLUSIONS: In this small cohort of six pediatric PCD patients, bronchoscopy appeared to be a safe and potentially useful integrated approach, combining disease assessment, and therapeutic intervention (airway clearance). The procedure also provided valuable insights into the airway inflammatory and microbiological phenotype. However, given the preliminary nature of these findings and the limited sample size, larger prospective studies are needed to confirm the role of bronchoscopy in routine PCD management.

- Subclinical retinal and choroidal microvascular involvement in pediatric asthma: an OCTA-based analysis of corticosteroid exposure. [Journal Article]BMC Pediatr. 2026 Aug 05; 26(1).BPed
- CONCLUSIONS: Asthma may be associated with subclinical posterior segment microvascular alterations. The absence of significant differences according to ICS dose after multiple comparison correction suggests that these changes are primarily related to the disease itself rather than treatment exposure. OCT and OCTA may contribute to early detection and follow-up.

- Characterizing neonatal survival across the first four years of operation of a special care baby unit in Eastern Sierra Leone. [Journal Article]BMC Pediatr. 2026 Aug 04; 26(1).BPed
- CONCLUSIONS: The early years of SCBU operation saw wide variation in neonatal characteristics and outcomes. Key shifts including the increase in referrals of younger patients may have contributed to the upward trend in deaths, though further exploration is needed. Overall, both the common diagnoses and key drivers of mortality aligned with national trends suggesting continued efforts to mitigate asphyxia and prematurity for SCBU patients are critical. As one of the first detailed characterizations of SCBU operation in a rural, low-income setting in this region, our findings underscore the importance of investing in timely, quality neonatal care.

- Association between the time window of rash recurrence and the risk of renal involvement within 6 months in children with immunoglobulin A vasculitis. [Journal Article]BMC Pediatr. 2026 Aug 04; 26(1).BPed
- CONCLUSIONS: Delayed rash recurrence, particularly at 31-60 days, was associated with renal involvement within 6 months. Standard renal surveillance remains necessary for every child with IgAV; recurrence timing may provide additional information for identifying children who warrant closer vigilance. Residual surveillance bias and the observational design limit causal interpretation.

- Effects of an online caregiver respiratory education program on sleep-related outcomes and parental stress in children with neuromuscular diseases: a randomized controlled trial. [Randomized Controlled Trial]BMC Pediatr. 2026 Aug 05; 26(1).BPed
- CONCLUSIONS: Caregiver respiratory education may improve selected sleep-related behaviors in children with neuromuscular diseases and may have beneficial effects on specific dimensions of caregiver stress. Although no significant effects were observed on overall sleep quality or total parental stress, caregiver respiratory education may serve as a complementary rehabilitation approach for families of children with neuromuscular diseases. Further studies with longer follow-up periods and objective sleep outcome measures are needed to confirm these exploratory findings.

- Parental perception of children sleep pattern changes during FIFA World Cup 2022. [Journal Article]BMC Pediatr. 2026 Aug 03; 26(1).BPed
- CONCLUSIONS: Major sporting and social events might significantly disrupt children's sleep schedules, compounding the public health issue of chronic SJL. Such periodic events expose the vulnerability in paediatric population by aggravating already existing SJL. Therefore, families need proactive guidance dealing with such events to protect their children of already existing SJL from baseline social and societal factors, and help them recover from their negative consequences on paediatric circadian biology.

- Assessment of hepcidin and iron status in children with untreated newly diagnosed graves' hyperthyroidism. [Journal Article]BMC Pediatr. 2026 Oct 20; 26(1).BPed
- CONCLUSIONS: Higher hepcidin levels and the strong positive correlation between hepcidin and TRAbs in children with newly diagnosed Graves' disease suggest a possible association between hepcidin and disease activity. However, further studies are needed to clarify whether altered hepcidin levels are a cause or a consequence of the disease process.

- Psychometric validation of the persian short form of the physical literacy in children questionnaire in Iranian children aged 4-12 years: factorial validity, internal consistency, and gender-based measurement invariance. [Journal Article]
- CONCLUSIONS: The Persian short form of the PL-C Quest demonstrated a well-fitting hierarchical factor structure, acceptable internal consistency for most domains, and equivalent measurement across gender and developmental age groups. These findings support its potential utility for research and group-level assessment of PL in Iranian children. Nevertheless, evidence for convergent and discriminant validity remained limited, and important psychometric properties, including criterion validity, test-retest reliability, responsiveness, and measurement error, were not examined. Accordingly, further validation in more diverse populations and against external criteria is required before routine clinical or educational implementation can be recommended.
